チェンマイ旅行で絶対に訪れたい場所のひとつが、ワット・プラタート・ドイ・ステープ寺院（Wat Phra That Doi Suthep）。
「チェンマイに来たならここだけは外せない」と言われるほど有名なお寺で、山の上にあるため景色も抜群です。
今回は2歳の娘と一緒に訪れた様子をご紹介します。

🚖 Crew Hotelから貸切タクシーで約45分
私たちは宿泊していたCrew Hotelから貸切タクシーで向かいました。
寺院は山の上にあるため、市街地から約45分ほど。
乗ったタクシーにはエアコンがありませんでしたが、窓が大きく開いていて風がよく通るので意外と快適。
山を登るにつれて空気が少しずつ冷たくなり、チェンマイ市街とは違う心地よさを感じられました。
移動時間も景色を眺めながら楽しめるので、あっという間です。
（We hired a private taxi from Crew Hotel to the temple.Since the temple sits on top of a mountain, the drive takes about 45 minutes from downtown Chiang Mai.Our taxi didn’t have air conditioning, but the windows were open, allowing a pleasant breeze to flow through the vehicle.As we climbed higher into the mountains, the air became noticeably cooler, making the ride surprisingly comfortable and refreshing.The beautiful scenery along the winding mountain road made the journey enjoyable from start to finish.）
🛍 駐車場から寺院までは露店が並ぶ坂道
寺院近くの駐車場でタクシーを待ってもらい、歩いて寺院へ向かいます。
道の両側にはお土産屋さんや露店がずらり。
歩いているだけでもワクワクします。
すると突然、
「お花とろうそく買って！」
と勢いよく話しかけてくるおばちゃんが（笑）。
どうしようかな・・・と悩みつつも、旅の思い出ということで購入しました。
今思えば、それも含めてタイらしい体験だったなと思います。
（Our driver waited in the parking area near the temple while we walked toward the entrance.The uphill path is lined with souvenir shops and street vendors selling local handicrafts, clothing, and snacks.It was fun just strolling through the lively atmosphere.Then, an elderly woman enthusiastically approached us, insisting that we buy flowers and candles for worship.To be honest, my first thought was,“This has to be a tourist price!”.But we bought them anyway, and looking back, it became one of those memorable travel moments that makes Thailand so charming.）
🚡 ロープウェイで山頂へ
寺院へは長い階段でも行けますが、小さな子ども連れだったのでロープウェイを利用しました。
ロープウェイ乗り場の改札内にはトイレがあります。

ここで娘のおむつ替えを済ませました。
子連れ旅行ではこうした情報が意外と助かります。
（Visitors can either climb the famous staircase or ride the cable car to reach the temple.Since we were traveling with our toddler, we chose the cable car.A helpful tip for families:There is a restroom inside the cable car entrance area.We used this opportunity to change our daughter’s diaper before heading up.Small details like this can make traveling with young children much easier.）
✨ 黄金に輝く寺院に感動
ロープウェイを降りると、いよいよ寺院へ。
入口で靴を脱いで中へ入ります。
目の前に現れたのは、太陽の光を受けて眩しく輝く黄金の仏塔。
思わず
「わぁ……」
と声が出てしまうほどの美しさでした。
寺院内では、多くの観光客が記念撮影を楽しんでいます。
自分たち同士で撮影しても十分ですが、写真撮影に慣れているスタッフのような方もいて、
「ここに立って！」
「少し右！」
と案内してくれるだけでなく、人が写り込まないよう周りの人へ声を掛けてくれることも。
おかげで家族みんなの素敵な写真を残すことができました。
After stepping off the cable car, we arrived at the temple grounds.Before entering the sacred area, visitors must remove their shoes.As we walked inside, an incredible sight appeared before us.The golden stupa shimmered brilliantly under the sunlight, creating an unforgettable first impression.Many visitors were taking photos around the temple.While you can certainly take your own pictures, there are experienced local photographers who know the best angles.They even help clear people from the background, making it easier to capture beautiful family photos.)
🙏 金色の仏塔の周りを3周
写真を撮った後は、黄金の仏塔の周りを時計回りに3周しました。
現地の参拝者も同じように歩いており、私たちも見よう見まねでお参り。
日本のお寺とは少し違う雰囲気を味わえるのも海外旅行の魅力ですね。
(After taking photos, we joined local worshippers in walking three times clockwise around the golden stupa.Watching local people perform this ritual and participating ourselves made the visit feel much more meaningful.It was a wonderful opportunity to experience Thai Buddhist culture firsthand.)
☀ 山の上でも日差しは強い
山頂なので風はとても気持ちよく吹いています。
しかし日陰は少なく、太陽を遮るものがほとんどありません。
そのため、思っていた以上に暑く感じました。
帽子や飲み物は必須です。
(Although a refreshing breeze blows across the mountaintop, there is very little shade.The sun can still feel quite intense, especially during the middle of the day.We definitely recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water.)
🪷 仏像やおみくじも楽しめる
寺院内には黄金の仏塔だけでなく、さまざまな仏像があります。
ゆっくり歩きながら見て回るだけでも十分楽しめます。
さらに、おみくじも体験。
旅先で引くおみくじは、日本とはまた違った雰囲気があり、とても思い出に残りました。
(The temple grounds feature many beautiful Buddha statues in addition to the famous golden stupa.Walking around and appreciating the different shrines was one of our favorite parts of the visit.We also tried drawing a fortune using traditional fortune sticks.It was a fun cultural experience and something a little different from what we’re used to in Japan.)
🐘 お土産は「これだ！」と思った時が買いどき
参拝を終えた後は階段を下り、お土産屋さんを散策しました。
タイらしい雑貨や置物がたくさん並んでいて、見ているだけでも楽しい時間です。
私たちは象の置物をたくさん購入しました。
象の置物はタイの至るところで販売されていますが、不思議なことに一つひとつ表情やデザインが違います。
「どこでも買えるから後でいいや。」
と思っていると、後から同じものには出会えません。
だからこそ、
「これが好き！」
と思えたものに出会ったら、その場で購入することをおすすめします。
旅の思い出として、きっと特別な一品になりますよ。
(After exploring the temple, we walked back down and spent some time browsing the souvenir shops.We ended up buying several elephant figurines.Although elephant souvenirs can be found all over Thailand, every shop offers slightly different designs.If you find one that really catches your eye, don’t wait.You may never come across that exact design again during your trip.Sometimes the best travel souvenirs are the ones you instantly fall in love with.)
🥤 観光後は麓のカフェでひと休み
寺院の下にはカフェがあります。
たくさん歩いて暑くなった体に、冷たいスムージーが最高でした。
娘も嬉しそうにゴクゴク飲んでいて、家族みんなでゆったり休憩。
観光の締めくくりにぴったりの時間でした。
(At the base of the temple, there’s a small café where visitors can take a break.After walking around in the warm weather, a cold fruit smoothie tasted amazing.Our daughter happily enjoyed hers as well, making it the perfect way to end our visit before heading back to the city.)
